General Requirements

Ø       A kayak must be used as either a fishing platform, or as a mode of transportation to an otherwise inaccessible land location. For our purposes, inaccessible means a location that is not safely or legally accessible by foot.

Ø       All participants must be at least 18 years old, and complete a registration application.

Ø       Personal flotation devices must be worn at all times while using a kayak.

Ø       Registration required prior to tournament fishing participation.

Ø       Bait types: fly, lure, plug, live, cut baits are acceptable.

Ø       All federal, state, and local fishing regulations apply.

Ø       New Jersey Fresh Water Fishing License required while fishing the upper portion of the GEHR from the damn at Lake Lenape to the power lines across the GEHR just below Gravelly Run (39* 25.514’ N, 74* 42.804’ W). State fresh water license may be required for fishing other tidal brackish water rivers and streams, if in doubt check with a NJDEP Fish and Wildlife representative.

Ø       Minimum size requirements (2005) 1 fish at 34” or larger, 1 fish at 24” but less than 28”. NJ State Salt Water Minimum Size, Possession Limits & Seasons Chart.
Note: Cleaning or filleting of fish with a minimum size limit while on the water is prohibited.

Ø       Weigh in procedures / locations – Any location with a state certified scale.

Ø       Barbless hooks: The use of barbless hooks is encouraged. A sharp point will anchor itself in the boney roof of the fish’s mouth, a barbless hook will cause little damage to the fleshy part of the jaw, and aid in quick and efficient release of unwanted fish. BTW- if you accidentally hook yourself, you will really appreciate a barbless hook!
