March

Saturday 3/11 March Madness Full Moon Paddle: -Weather Permitting- Sunset 5:58, moon rise 5:21. Known by early Native American tribes as the Full Worm Moon because this was the time of year when the ground would begin to soften and the earthworms would reappear. This moon has also been known as the Full Crow Moon, the Full Crust Moon, and the Full Sap Moon.
Launch early evening approx 6:30 from Jeffers Landing into the open tidal area of the Great Egg Harbor River. Anticipate heading up-river exploring the salt marsh, returning down river with the rising moon. PFD's, flashlights required. Recommend sit in yaks 12' and longer. The salt marsh and tidal river are mystifying at sunset and very disorienting at night...Plan to stay with the group.
This is an easy paddle, but is NOT a beginner's paddle. You should have mastered kayak control on open water and be familiar with self/assisted rescue procedures ... just in case! The water is COLD...Dress accordingly! Drysuit or appropriate wetsuit and jackets are a must for survival if you go for an accidental swim. Registration/Details contact Shack George (info@paddleshack.com).
