Rolling Clinics
Winter ( January, February, March) 2008
Kayak Roll wanna bees this is for you!
Again this winter,
Paddle Shack will be hosting rolling clinics at the BCC College Pool (Pemberton
Campus). These are perfect get acquainted session for
those who would like to learn and practice the basics needed to
effectively roll your kayak.
These sessions are
designed for paddlers with no (or insufficient) rolling skills. We will
cover pertinent back ground skills such as wet exits, hip snap, torso
rotation, assisted in the boat rescues (bow, paddle, hand of god) as
well as self and assisted out of the boat rescues. Then we will proceed
into step by step techniques to get you rolling.
This is a
comprehensive two part instructive session that will give you a strong
background for building successful rolling skills. Following this skill
development with additional practice at our Saturday evening or Sunday
morning open pool sessions will give you the embedded muscle memory that
will help you become a confident kayak roller.
Rolling your kayak
is amazingly easy and great fun. Once you learn to relax and are
comfortable and confident that you will survive being upside down in
your boat, a whole new world of paddling opens to you.
There are no age
limitations…we have successful students from as young as 8 well into
their seventies. This is not about strength or physical condition…trust
me, if it were I would never be able to roll…rolling is simply an
assembly of easy (and sometimes counter intuitive) body movements that
are not part of our daily routine. You can do it!
What are you waiting
for? Indoor pool with water and air in the 80’s. Clean showers and
locker rooms. Easy access and plenty of parking. Skilled and patient ACA
certified instructors. We have put it all together for you. Bring your
boat, paddle, skirt, pfd. We supply the rest…nose clips are recommended
and are available for purchase at the pool. If you wish, we can supply
boats too! (Slight additional fee).
This is absolutely
the best and most fun you will have on a Saturday night or Sunday
morning, and you will
still have time for that hot date or sporting event.
Fee $80 for two 3 hour
sessions. Equipment rental package (we furnish all gear and boat) $35
additional.
